GARY'S APPROACH

I don't teach guitar the way most people do. I think the traditional Mel Bay book approach that teaches reading notation as an essential part of the initial learning process is just plain wrong. This backwards approach ignores the fact that most of the people who are superstars, sell millions of records, and win Grammies do not read music. Music is a hearing process, not a visual one. A person could be a terrific sight reader and be 100% deaf.

Most people who learn to play guitar like SONGS.
They want to sing and play popular music .Pop, blues, country, folk, rock, whatever. It makes sense for them to learn chords and rhythms first. They begin playing songs right away. It's fun. Then , after you start playing simple songs , learn to read music if you want to.

Here's what I can teach you:
How to play songs you like
How to understand how chords go together
How to write your own songs
How to figure out any song, in any key, in a few minutes
Common playing mistakes to avoid
Different styles of playing and what makes them different

More specifically:
Rhythm patterns of any style , including finger picking
Chords in the 5 "Guitar Friendly" keys
How chord progressions work
Better chord voicing
How to use your capo to make hard things easier
Connector chords
Color chords
The number system (it's Easy)
Specific techniques like bending, sliding, hammer-ons, pull-offs, etc.
Getting and keeping your guitar in tune
Choosing the right guitar and the right method to meet your goals fast
And so on and so forth
Yes, I do teach lead playing, scales, patterns etc.
I can teach you to play the right chords and rhythm to any song in any genre of music

I teach in person, through emails, faxes, telephones and will have interactive on-line lessons available this year.
