APPROACH
I don't teach guitar the way most people
do. I think the traditional Mel Bay book
approach that teaches reading notation as
an essential part of the initial learning
process is just plain wrong.
This backwards approach ignores the fact
that most of the people who are
superstars, sell millions of records, and
win Grammies do not read
music. Music is a hearing
process, not a visual one. A person could
be a terrific sight reader and be 100% deaf.
Most people who learn to play guitar like
SONGS.
They want to sing and play popular music
.Pop, blues, country, folk, rock,
whatever. It makes sense for them to
learn chords and rhythms first. They
begin playing songs right away. It's fun.
Then , after you start playing simple
songs , learn to read music if you want
to.
